Happy Oscar season, everyone!
Oscar nominations were announced today and I couldn't be more excited. Last year I succeeded in seeing every film on my list, which was every category except for Documentary Short Subject and Foreign Film. This year I've had it pretty easy- as most of you may know I work in the industry and this year I've had access to a lot of screeners and have seen most of the big films. In order to up the ante a little bit and make it more of a challenge for myself, this year I've decided to add the Foreign Film category to my list bringing my total to 36 films (excluding the shorts) to see before the Oscars. I'm starting off with 15/36, which gives me a pretty good head start. Below, you'll find a list of all the films (excluding all shorts) nominated for awards this year:
1. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
2. Frost/Nixon
3. Milk
4. The Reader
5. Slumdog Millionaire
6. Rachel Getting Married
7. Changeling
8. Frozen River
9. Doubt
10. The Wrestler
11. The Visitor
12. Vicki Cristina Barcelona
13. Tropic Thunder
14. The Dark Knight
15. Revolutionary Road
16. Happy-Go-Lucky
17. In Bruges
18. WALL-E
19. The Baader-Meinhof Complex
20. The Class
21. Departures
22. Revanche
23. Waltz with Bashir
24. Bolt
25. Kung Fu Panda
26. The Duchess
27. Australia
28. The Betrayal
29. Encounters at the End of the World
30. The Garden
31. Man on Wire
32. Trouble the Water
33. Hellboy II: The Golden Army
34. Defiance
35. Ironman
36. Wanted
In addition to these films, I'm hoping to once again catch a screening of the Live Action and Animated shorts. It made the ceremony far more interesting having seen all the shorts and deciding which ones I thought deserved to win (even though they didn't).
So which films will you see before the ceremony? Will you try to see them all or just the Best Picture nominations? Feel free to post your progress and your thoughts here and stay tuned for my thoughts on all the nominated films as I see them. Good luck!

4I actually haven't seen that one yet! It's in my bag right now, I'm going to watch it this weekend. It definitely has a lot riding on it, what with 13 nominations and all.
I've seen the following:
Frost/Nixon
53. MilkSlumdog Millionaire
6. Rachel Getting Married
7. Changeling
Crap, I hit post too soon.
6Well, I'm dying to talk about it because...wait for it...wait for it....I didn't think it was "all that". :GASP: :disbelief:
7Frost/Nixon
8Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Rachel Getting Married
Changeling
Doubt
The Wrestler
Tropic Thunder
The Dark Knight
Revolutionary Road
WALL-E
Bolt
Australia
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Ironman
I'll definitely post after I see it so we can discuss. I have a feeling I will feel the same as you, candy.
9I've heard a lot of people say that, that it's good but not Best Picture-worthy.
I have the feeling that Slumdog will win. Although out of all the BP nominees, I've only seen that and Milk.
10I'll warn you in advance, I have geeky teenage boy taste in movies. So don't make fun of me.
Seen:
Wanted
Iron Man
Dark Knight
In Bruges (HATE)
WALL-E
Tropic Thunder
Will see:
Hellboy II
Bolt
Kung Fu Panda
Couldn't care less about:
11All the rest. They lack superheroes and explosions.
Oh! Did anyone watch The Big Bang Theory on Monday the 12th? After the show, Chuck Lorre always puts up these little "vanity cards" that explains the jokes in the show or just has random tidbits...Well that night the episode was called "Spoiler Alert" and the vanity card at the end had ALL OF THE SPOILERS of the big movies. I always read the vanity cards because they are funny & I was 1/2 way through this one before I figured out it was REALLY spoiling it for me. He spoiled Revolutionary Road for me. Boo. Here it is if you are brave: http://chucklorre.com/index.php?p=235
12I've seen a lot of these films and I have to say that my biggest disappointment this year is the lack of love for The Wrestler. Not only do I feel that it should have been up for Best Picture, but more importantly Darren Aronofsky deserved a Best Director nod for it as well. I have yet to watch anything this year that impressed me as much as that film did in directing, writing, and acting. I do believe that Mickey will win and deserves the Oscar, but I'm pretty disappointed in the academy for not giving Aronofsky credit for his best work to date.
13IMO, it is not best picture worthy, nor should Brad or Cate win. I do think Taji? the supporting actress was really great.
14That's interesting about BB. Phase, which one that you've seen so far is the best in your opinion?

15Candy, that's hilarious! Be careful, it also spoils Gran Torino and Rachel Getting Married as well. All the others you can kinda figure out for yourself.
16The Wrestler, The Wrestler, The Wrestler. Hands down.
17I will go see the Wrestler BUT I have a moral hatred for Mickey Rourke. I met him at a Sin City party in Austin & immediately felt "oogey" around him. My friend that worked on Sin City with him said he has a disgusting porn addiction along w/ a strange young looking Asian male "assistant" that was with him a lot in his trailer. I told my husband that I was at a party with him & my husband told me that his ex-fiance claimed he date raped her when she was 15. She was working as a model & was at an event with him & he invited her up to his room, etc. My husband has huge hatred for him & I think he's really gross & don't know if I can separate that from the movie. I couldn't on Sin City.
18I've seen:
The Dark Knight
Ironman
WALL-E
Bolt
Wanted (meh)
The Dutchess
want to see:
Slumdog
Rachel Getting Married
Vicky Cristina...
Revolutionary Road
A few of them I've never heard of but I'm too lazy right now to look them up and see if I'm interested.
19Candy- that sucks about Mickey Rourke. I'll try not to let it affect my love for The Wrestler. His character in that film is really flawed too, so it fits.
20I haven't seen any of them
I do want to see Benjamin Button though!
21I'm not the best movie reviewer in the world, can I still be in here P? cause I wanna see the things you write about the movies!
i love oscar season! there are soooooooooo many of these that i still need to see
22Of COURSE you can be in here Momo!! I'm excited to hear what you think about anything you see!!
23
24Thx.
I've seen:
Frost/Nixon
In Bruges
Wall-E
The Dark Knight
Wanted
Ironman
I plan on seeing Australia and Slumdog Millionaire in the next week (they are still at the cinema here. And Revolutionary Road. I was going to say The Case of Benjamin Button but I think I'll have the same opinion as you guys
I'm also looking forward to seeing Changeling (that hasn't come to the cinema here yet)
I want to see Milk and Rachel Getting Married but I'll have to check their release dates.
25I've seen Tropic Thunder (hated it), Iron Man (liked it) and Wanted (I was surprised I didn't hate it). We plan on seeing much more movies but the thing is, they come out so late here. My husband's coworker travel a lot for work internationally and lend us tons of DVDs. It helps keeping up to date.
26I can't wait to read your reviews, PK.
Thus far, I've seen 11/36:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Rachel Getting Married
The Visitor
Tropic Thunder
The Dark Knight
Revolutionary Road
Happy-Go-Lucky
WALL-E
I am going to shoot to see all of them, just as in years past. I should be able to see a screening of the shorts since they usually screen them at the theater just up the road from me. I missed them last year because I got really sick the week before the Oscars. I was actually really on track to see just about everything and then got seriously derailed by being sick. This year, though, I am determined to see as many as possible, even if it means spending Sunday in one of the Atlanta suburbs to catch Australia and Bolt.
Good luck Phase! I'm excited to play along for the third year running!
27We've seen Benjamin Button, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda, Bolt, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wanted, Hellboy II, Tropic Thunder, and The Dutchess.
As for Benjamin Button, I think the best part of that movie was seeing New Orleans recreated in different times. The story got kinda slow.
Probably won't see the rest until they come out on DVD. We usually only see action and animated movies in theaters. Coraline will be our next movie.
