I saw 2 of the Best Picture Nominees this weekend and was not really surprised by my reaction to them. Both were what I was expecting.
I am pressed for time today so I found a review for each of these that I agree with.
Gotta love www.rottentomatoes.com.
Babel - 3/5 Stars
Beautifully made with some strong acting performances, but the thread between stories was weak and felt a bit contrived.

Little Miss Sunshine - 3/5 Stars
Really shouldn't have been nominated for Best Picture. At times funny, but other times quite slow...

I still need to see Letters from Iwo Jima, but so far I am still 100% behind The Departed for Best Picture!

LIttle Miss Sunshine was good. Babel, was okay Matt did a good job.
1I agree with the various storylines in Babel being too weakly connected. My friends that I saw it with were actually debating why they were all in the same movie as we exited the theater.
I loved Little Miss Sunshine and I'm thrilled it's nominated for Best Picture. I love that it wasn't a comedy based on people falling down or talking in funny voices. It was actually pretty smart, observant comedy which is unfortunately all too rare these days!
